Laurie Rice is running to provide prosthetic limbs to those in need
"To be gifted with legs that run and to enable the gift of movement for others is a privilege."

In our “Why I’m Running” series, Boston Marathon runners share what’s inspiring them to make the 26.2-mile trek from Hopkinton to Boston. If you’re running the marathon, you can share your #WhyImRunningBoston story here.
Name: Laurie Rice
Age: 47
From: Franklin, Tennessee
I am running the Boston Marathon because I am passionate about running, and Boston is THE marathon. I am honored to be part of a charity team (Team Limb-It-Less) that supports the Heather Abbott Foundation and to raise money to provide prosthetic limbs for child and adult amputees. To be gifted with legs that run and to enable the gift of movement for others is a privilege.
To be one of 31,000 runners will be the ultimate experience of community, all of us working towards something larger than ourselves. I can’t wait to be a part of that energy, to experience Boston Strong firsthand. I am running the Boston Marathon because I believe that we all have the power within ourselves to realize our greatest potential and to pay it forward to others so that everyone is elevated for the better. I am running Boston because I am damn lucky to do so!
