Nelson Cruz Continues to Crush David Ortiz in All-Star Vote

David’s not going to like this official score, either.

Orioles designated hitter Nelson Cruz — who has a 1.215 OPS at Fenway Park over the last three seasons — has received 2,457,349 All-Star votes as he maintains his lead over David Ortiz (1,652,470) in the fan vote.

Ortiz, a nine-time All-Star, is in danger of losing the vote at DH for the first time in the last four elections, has to make up about 800,000 votes with less than two weeks to go in the online balloting. Ortiz could still make it on the team if there’s an injury or if he’s part of the final player vote. It would be Big Papi’s 10th All-Star game in the last 11 years if he’s named to the 34-man roster.

Cruz, a two-time All-Star, is tied for first in the major league lead with 23 home runs and is currently second with 60 RBIs.

The 33-year-old Cruz — who was suspended for 50 games last season for violating MLB’s drug policy — said that he turned to Biogenesis to deal with a gastrointestinal infection in February 2012.
