Sox Prospect Vazquez Added to All-Star Futures Game

Just one day after being named to the Triple-A All-Star game, PawSox catcher Christian Vazquez got word that he would be a part of the MLB Summer Classic festivities.

Vazquez was named to the World roster at the MLB All-Star Futures Game, filling the open spot left after Atlanta Braves prospect Christian Bethancourt was promoted to the majors.

The 23-year-old catcher was taken by the Red Sox in the ninth round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. The native of Puerto Rico was just 17 at the time.

In his first full season at Triple-A, Vazquez is hitting .275 with three home runs and 19 RBIs in 62 games for the PawSox. Behind the plate, he has thrown out 39 percent (18-for-49) of would-be base-stealers.
He was named the MVP of the Sea Dogs in 2013 after a Double-A season that saw him hit .289 with 96 extra-base hits in 96 games with Portland.
After the news was announced that Vazquez was on the team, his former Portland club expressed their congratulations on Twitter:

Vazquez will be joining fellow Red Sox prospects Henry Owens and Sean Coyle, who will be playing for the US team, in the Futures Game. Mookie Betts was previously named to the team as well, but was removed after his promotion to the big leagues.
