Portland Sea Dogs in Line for Wookie of the Year

The Pawtucket Red Sox have a pretty cool themed “Star Wars Night” each June, when fans arrive at McCoy Stadium adorned in their favorite Star Wars gear to mingle with some costumed characters from the popular movie trilogy.

The PawSox never wore these though.

Those are the Chewbacca jerseys that the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox announced this week that they will wear as part of their own Star Wars night on Aug. 16. The jerseys will be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Maine.

The evening will also feature a post-game fireworks show at Hadlock Field.

These aren’t the first “Star Wars”-themed uniforms in the minors this year by any stretch.
