After an almost month-long saga of “when will Jake Peavy be traded?” the Red Sox have finally worked out a deal to trade their righthanded starter.

The Red Sox officially announced on Saturday that they have dealt Peavy to the San Francisco Giants, along with cash, for two prospects from the San Francisco farm system.

In exchange for Peavy, the Red Sox will receive prospects Edwin Escobar and Heath Hembree. Both were members of the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies this past season, where Escobar went 3-8 with a 5.11 ERA in 20 starts and Hembree made 41 appearances as a reliever, posting a 1-3 record with a 3.89 ERA and 18 saves.

Both have been optioned to Triple-A and will join the Pawtucket Red Sox.

Peavy was acquired by the Red Sox from the White Sox at the 2013 trade deadline and was a key piece in the Red Sox’ run to the 2013 World Series. He has made 20 starts this season, going 1-9 with a 4.72 ERA.
