Game 126: David Ross Activated, Catching Clay Buchholz Tonight

David Ross has been activated from the disabled list and will be catching Clay Buchholz tonight and batting ninth for the Red Sox. Ross has been on the DL since Aug. 2 with a rupture of the plantar fascia in his right foot. Catcher Dan Butler has been optioned back to Pawtucket to make room for Ross.

Mike Napoli is out of the starting lineup tonight, with Kelly Johnson taking over duties at first base.

Notes: Will Middlebrooks remains ‘day-to-day’ after coming up with a tight hamstring in Tuesday night’s 4-3 loss to the Angels… Clay Buchholz struck out nine Astros, giving up two runs in seven innings of a 5-3 extra inning loss to Houston at Fenway on Friday… Prior to that start Buchholz faced Garrett Richards in Anaheim on Aug. 9, giving up three runs while striking out eight in eight innings… Richards will be looking to improve his record to 3-0 this month after losing the final two games in July… Against the Red Sox in Anaheim on Aug. 9, Richards gave up three runs — one earned — and three hits in 6.1 innings of a 5-4, 19-inning victory over the Sox… Mike Trout is 6-for-13 with two home runs off Buchholz….
