Matt Shoemaker’s Wife Calls Will Middlebrooks a ‘Butthole’ For Breaking Up No-Hitter

You’ve got to love a woman who stands by her man.

No doubt it was all in fun, but Matt Shoemaker’s wife has already felt the backlash for calling Red Sox third baseman Will Middlebrooks a “butthole” for breaking up her husband’s no-hit bid with a double in the seventh inning of the Red Sox’ 2-0 loss to the Angels.

Shoemaker pitched an outstanding game against the Red Sox at Fenway, tossing a no-hitter for 7.2 innings until Middlebrooks smoked a line double to left.

It didn’t take long for Danielle Shoemaker feel the backlash and she soon deleted the offending tweet and made it clear she was goofing around.

I’m sure Red Sox fans will show their faux outrage over the incident, but you’ve got to appreciate Mrs. Shoemaker’s chutzpah for firing off the bold tweet.

The last time the Red Sox were no-hit at Fenway, Ted Williams flied out to right field for the final out of Tiger ace Jim Bunning’s no-hitter on July 20, 1958 in the first game of a doubleheader. Bunning was the third opposing pitcher to throw a no-hitter at Fenway. Two others achieved the feat: Walter Johnson in 1920 and Ted Lyons in 1926.

In June, Jake Arrieta held the Red Sox hitless until Stephen Drew singled with two outs in the eighth inning of the Cubs 2-0 win at Fenway. He was the last opposing pitcher to get that close to the no-hit feat in Boston.

In other Shoemaker news, the Angels starter had a little help from the Green Monster in making his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge video Wednesday:
