The new owners of the Pawtucket Red Sox are planning to move the team to Providence, according to a report by NBC 10.

The Boston Globe reported Sunday that Madeleine Mondor, widow of longtime PawSox owner Ben Mondor, has sold the team to a group that includes the Boston Red Sox as a minority stakeholder.

A day later, Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien told radio station WPRO he had been informed by the new ownership group of its plans to move, describing the news as “devastating.’’

Details are scarce, and one local beat writer has reported the team and Pawtucket have a lease in place through 2021.
