Yoan Moncada has arrived in Fort Myers.
The Red Sox prospect, ranked 8th in MLB.com’s rankings of the top 100 prospects, was seen Monday taking the field at the Red Sox spring training facility at JetBlue Park. And he certainly looked in shape for the season.
The 20 year-old second baseman made history before ever stepping on to the field at Fenway Park. In 2011 he earned the largest signing bonus ($31.5 million) ever given to an amateur player when he signed with the Red Sox. Boston also had to pay an additional $31.5 million penalty for exceeding their international bonus pool.
The switch-hitter batted .278 with 8 homers in 81 games with the Greenville Drive last year, and is expected to compete for a chance to make his major league debut this season.
