Morning Sports Update: David Ortiz says he regrets announcing retirement before season
Good morning, sports fans.
The Red Sox lose to the White Sox, 3-1, in extras, David Ortiz says he regrets announcing his retirement early, and John Farrell breaks down the late innings of the Sox’ loss.
David Ortiz says he regrets announcing retirement before season: “I’m too busy. I have too many things to do. I barely have time to do anything,” Ortiz told ESPN Deportes following the Red Sox’s win over the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. “It’s very difficult for me. If I had even imagined that it would be so difficult, I wouldn’t have announced anything. There are too many people I have to pay attention to, and on top of that I have to prepare for a game.” (ESPN.com)
John Farrell breaks down three important late-game decisions in Red Sox’ loss to White Sox: The Red Sox fell to the White Sox 3-1 in 10 innings Monday night, in a game that flew by until the ninth inning and then had a number of situations unfold where manager John Farrell had to make split-second decisions. Sabres acquire rights to sign Harvard standout Jimmy Vesey: The Buffalo Sabres might have beaten the Bruins to the punch by acquiring the rights to Jimmy Vesey in a trade with the Nashville Predators on Monday. (The Boston Globe)

Rusney Castillo is a reminder of one of the dumbest things the Red Sox have ever done: Not that Red Sox fans necessarily need the periodical status update, but old pal Jon Lester won his ninth game of the season over the weekend in Chicago, a six-inning, three-run performance against the Pittsburgh Pirates that actually ranks as his second-weakest outing of the year for the Cubs.
