Morning sports update: Bill Belichick took in Sunday’s Red Sox-Yankees game from Fenway

The Patriots head coach saw something rare: A 4-game sweep of the Yankees.

The Red Sox finished off their four-game sweep of the Yankees Sunday night, rallying from down three runs in the 9th inning to stun New York and increase their AL East lead to 9.5 games.

Meet Bill Belichick, Red Sox fan

Patriots training camp is different this year — no joint practices, no officiating crews on site — and so in that context it made sense to see a relaxed Bill Belichick donning a ball cap and taking in a Red Sox game Sunday night.

Belichick and longtime girlfriend Linda Holliday joined Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski in his box at Fenway during the Red Sox’ 4-3 win, and they saw an exciting finish. You know it was a big game when the Patriots head coach was joined at Fenway by Jennifer Lopez, who was in the stands while her boyfriend Alex Rodriguez called the action from the booth for ESPN.

Belichick is a known sports nut: when he’s not gushing about left-footed punters, he’s been a frequent visitor to TD Garden for Celtics games.

Randy Moss thanked Belichick and Robert Kraft in his Hall of Fame speech

The former Patriot didn’t forget his time in New England during his big night. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady — who connected with Moss for 23 touchdowns in 2008 — also sent some love Moss’s way. (
