Mookie Betts met up with LeBron James

The Red Sox outfielder watched the Lakers take on the Grizzlies over the weekend.

How is Mookie Betts spending his offseason? For one evening, with LeBron James.

The Red Sox outfielder escaped the rainy Boston-weather to sit courtside at the FedExForum in Memphis on Saturday to watch the Lakers defeat the Grizzlies in a narrow 109-108 win.

Betts met up with the Lakers’ forward, who finished with 30 points, six rebounds, and four assists, and posted a picture to Instagram. He captioned the photo with a crown-emoji —  “?” — to honor “King” James.

Although they’ll never face off on the field (or the court), Betts and James did compete for the Associate Press Male Athlete of the Year award in 2018, when Betts was voted runner-up to James. The accolades continued this year, as James became the first player in NBA history to score a triple-double against every team in the league after a 112-107 victory over the Thunder.

Betts, whose future with the Red Sox is uncertain, snagged his second Silver Slugger award.

J.D. Martinez won two Silver Slugger awards (OF, DH), and became the first player to do so in the same season.
