No permission sought for Gordon

The Islanders, currently seeking a replacement for Ted Nolan, have not asked permission to interview Providence coach Scott Gordon.

“They could,” assistant GM Jim Benning said. “He’s definitely a good candidate. It sounds to me, from what I’m reading in the press, is that they want to go with a young team. So it makes sense that they would groom a young coach.”

Gordon is entering the final year of a two-year contract with the Bruins. The club has an option for a third year.

In chatter around the league, ex-Atlanta coach Bob Hartley has been brought up repeatedly as a leading candidate for the Islanders’ job.
