Martin St. Pierre has been assigned to Providence. St. Pierre appeared in five games for the big club, scoring a shorthanded goal last night against Pittsburgh. St. Pierre’s assignment indicates that Petteri Nokelainen will be ready for tomorrow’s rematch against the Penguins.
Also, Patrice Bergeron has been placed on injured reserve, meaning he will be out at least the next seven days. The 23-year-old center, who has four goals and 14 assists in 31 games this season, suffered a concussion Dec. 20 against the Hurricanes after colliding with another player. By placing him on injured reserve, the Bruins are permitted to replace him on the roster.
Given his concussion history — Bergeron played in only 10 games last season after absorbing a brutal hit against the boards against the Flyers last Oct. 27 — it appears the Bruins are being appropriately cautious.
