Salvador vs. Thornton (AP)

The experts’ take

  • Kevin Paul Dupont, Boston Globe: Only 3:03 into the action, Bruins winger Shawn Thornton and the Devils Bryce Salvador dropped gloves for a spirited bout that had the two combatants crash to the ice, struggle back to their feet and trade more shots. Advantage Salvador, who threw far more punches.
  • Rich Chere, The Star-Ledger: Devils’ defenseman Bryce Salvador and Bruins’ winger Shawn Thornton fought in the first period after a hard collision in the corner. There was no preliminary dancing in this one between two players clearly fired up. Salvador came out of the corner and threw his gloves off first, landing the initial few punches in the bout at 3:03.

The not-so expert’s take

  • Chris Forsberg, Salvador scores the early takedown by catching Thornton on his heels, but Boston’s winger saves face by immediately bringing the fight back to an upright position and trading righthanded haymakers. Thornton registers his own takedown at the end of the fight and it seems like a surefire draw.
