First period

Manny Fernandez makes the start in the Boston net–his second in the last three games. Coach Claude Julien wants both his ‘tenders, Fernandez and Tim Thomas, in good working order for the playoffs.

With Shawn Thornton a late scratch because of an undisclosed injury, Byron Bitz makes his way back into the lineup, playing on a checking line with Stephane Yelle and Steve Montador.

3:56 — Penalty — Brandon Bochenski, high sticking, 2:00.

8:25 — Tampa goalie Mike McKenna turns back Mark Stuart’s quick shot in slot off of a David Krejci feed.

8:43 — Zdeno Chara and Evgeny Artyhukin engage in heavweight bout in front of Bruins bench, the two big men exchanging thunderous punches. Each are assessed 5:00 fighting majors. Big Z gets an extra 2:00 for roughing. Vincent Lecavalier also gets 2:00 for hooking. Big Z moved in for the fight after Artyhukin, drilled by a Milan Lucic check, gave David Krejci a quick pop to the head.


13:37 — Chuck Kobasew knocks in what looks like a 1-0 Boston lead, but the play is ruled offside, nullifying the goal.

14:03 — Blake Wheeler knocks in the 20th goal of his rookie season for a 1-0 Boston lead. Marc Savard popped a shot on net at the right post, following a Matt Hunwick dump-in, and Wheeler followed up with a quick backhand that banked in off goalie Mike McKenna.

17:53 — Penalty — Milan Lucic, interference, 2:00.

18:27 — Penalty — Aaron Ward, high-sticking, 2:00.
