David Krejci is a go for tonight. (Jim Davis/Globe Staff)
David Krejci, who skated between Blake Wheeler and Michael Ryder during the morning skate, will be in his No. 2 center slot tonight.
“I’m excited,” Krejci said. “I’m ready to go.”
Claude Julien said he’ll keep an eye on Krejci and monitor his play to determine his ice time. Krejci didn’t play in the preseason.
“We’re going to have to see how he handles the ice time tonight,” Julien said. “Whether that means a little less and kind of work him in, we may have to do that. But if he’s going well and he’s in pretty good shape, we’ll keep using him as we go along. That’s what I tend to do with guys who come back from situations like that. Without predicting how much time they’re going to be on the ice, it’s about keeping a close eye on them and see how they handle it.”
* There are two new motivational signs in the home dressing room. The one above the door reads, “Knowing is not enough; we must apply/ Willing is not enough we must do.” It is a quote from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The second is above Tim Thomas and Tuukka Rask: “We are what we repeatedly do/ Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” Some of Aristotle’s finest work.
* Alex Ovechkin on Zdeno Chara: “He’s big. He’s strong. He has the longest stick in the NHL, probably. He can make one step and be in good position. He’s good.”
* Mark Stuart, overlooked in last year’s player introductions, hoped he wouldn’t suffer a similar fate tonight.
