Updates from Wilmington

Good afternoon from Ristuccia Arena, where the Bruins skated this morning for a practice, coming on the heels of a 5-2 win over Toronto last night.

The Bruins are expected to name a second alternate captain before tomorrow’s game at the New York Islanders, now that Steve Begin has served his 15 games of duty with the “A” on his sweater. Head coach Claude Julien says he hasn’t even thought about it yet.

“Someone will see it on their jersey tomorrow,” Julien said. “Honestly, that’s the truth. I haven’t talked about it, we’ll see. There’s a little bit of thinking I have to do before I decide. We’re going to discuss it with the coaches, there’s some guys worthy of it, but we’ll make that decision tomorrow before the game. We’re not even going to talk about it.”

Daniel Paille was out there again with the first line of Marc Savard and Blake Wheeler today, while the fourth line of Begin and Thornton skate without a center. No sign of Byron Bitz, who missed last night’s game with an illness, and Dennis Wideman did not practice but did make a brief stroll through the locker room. Both were given the day off; Julien says Bitz is “feeling a little better” and anticipates that both will play tomorrow night.
