Morris back on the ice; Lucic to travel

Good morning from Ristuccia Arena, where the Bruins have taken to the ice for the first time since their 6-4 win over Atlanta at the TD Garden Wednesday night.

Derek Morris is back on the ice for the first time since the shootout loss at Chicago on Dec. 18. Morris has missed the last three games with an undisclosed injury. Morris, who usually teams with Zdeno Chara on the top defensive pairing, said he feels fine; head coach Claude Julien said he’ll be back in the lineup once the doctors have cleared him to play.

The other development on the ice came after practice, where Milan Lucic practiced various skating and shooting drills with assistant coach John Whitesides. Julien confirmed that Lucic will travel with the team today to Florida, where they will face off with the Panthers tomorrow night.

Four full lines out again (they skated just three on Tuesday), and for the second practice in a row they’re breaking in some of their Winter Classic gear — that is, brown pants, brown helmet, brown gloves.

Update: 1:13 p.m.
On an even lighter note, some comedy ensued as the Zamboni went on to clean the ice. A group of Amesbury High school hockey players, there to take on Cape Ann League rival Wilmington later in the afternoon, began screaming for goaltender Tuukka Rask and tapping on the glass. Rask, ever the showman, tapped the glass as he skated by the kids before turning for the players’ locker room.
“I pay them,” he chuckled to a group of reporters as he left the ice.
