Bergeron leaves game with hand injury

NEW YORK – In the midst of tonight’s game against the New York Rangers, the Bruins lost the valuable services of center Patrice Bergeron in what appeared to be a hand injury at the start of the second period.

Bergeron was hurt as he moved to the top of the crease in the offensive zone. Gaining position on Ranger defenseman Mike Del Zotto in front of goalie Henrik Lundqvist, a shot from one of his teammates nailed Bergeron on the right glove, sending the savvy slot man to the bench shaking his hand.

Television cameras caught Bergeron wincing on the bench as he talked to team trainer Don Del Negro. In a Versus report later in the period, noted that Bergeron entered the X-ray room here at the arena. Prior to leaving the bench, it appeared as though Bergeron was icing the hand.

Team spokesperson Eric Tosi informed the media prior to the third period that Bergeron was finished for the night, but Tosi did not provide details as to the nature of the injury.
