Morning briefing

RALEIGH, N.C. — Good morning from the RBC Center, where the Bruins will close out their seven-game road trip against the Hurricanes tonight. Carolina, once the league’s laughingstock, only trails the Bruins by eight points. There is still hope in the Carolina dressing room about a playoff spot.

“Because we’ve fought our way back into reasonable proximity, you start to feel it,” said Paul Maurice. “It’s a great thing to come to the rink and feel a little energy in the morning and a little tension. You can feel it in the room. You can feel it in the morning skate. There’s more on the line for the game tonight. That’s what you coach for. That’s definitely what you play for — to get into that little tension where you don’t get to sleep in the afternoon because you can’t wait to get back here and the puck drop.”

* The Bruins arrived in North Carolina early this morning and scrubbed their skate. Expect Tuukka Rask to be in goal.

* Tim Gleason (undisclosed) will be a game-time decision. The Hurricanes recalled Jamie McBain from Albany. McBain could make his NHL debut tonight if Gleason is unavailable.

* Stephane Auger and Tom Kowal will be the referees. Andy McElman and Pierre Racicot will be the linesmen.
