While his teammates practiced on the Ristuccia Arena ice this morning, Marc Savard worked out on a stationary bike, raising his heart rate to approximately 120 beats per minute. Savard will continue to work out on the bike, then take an exertion test, according to GM Peter Chiarelli.
Chiarelli characterized the exertion test as a 15- or 20-minute bike ride. Chiarelli said Savard is progressing.
* The Bruins will continue to carry 14 forwards and seven defensemen for the near future, said Chiarelli. Brian McGrattan, one of the spare forwards, practiced on the fourth line today with Shawn Thornton, Gregory Campbell, and Brad Marchand. McGrattan ditched the No. 87 he’d been wearing in camp for No. 10.
* Andrew Ference, who’s been hampered by an upper-body injury, was given a cortisone shot in his thumb, according to Claude Julien. Doctors told Ference not to shoot, so the defenseman left practice early. Julien said the ailment should not be a longterm issue.
* Dennis Seidenberg didn’t complete practice either. Julien said Seidenberg has either a touch of the flu or food poisoning.
* Marco Sturm has yet to begin skating. According to Julien, Sturm will be on the ice soon.
