Bruins lose in overtime to Flyers, 2-1

Flyers 2, Bruins 1 – Center Mike Richards scored with three seconds left in overtime, lifting Philadelphia to a victory over the Bruins. Richards took a shot from the right circle during a three-on-one, beating goalie Tim Thomas for the winner.
Third period
20:00 – All tied up at 1-1 at the end of regulation. The game is headed to overtime.

13:17 – The Bruins have successfully killed off the Recchi penalty.

11:17 – The Flyers are on their first power play of the night as a result of a Mark Recchi penalty for hooking Mike Richards.

9:43 – Boston 1, Flyers 1 – Nathan Horton has pulled the Bruins even. Horton took a touch pass from David Krejci and, from the inside edge of the right circle, beat goalie Brian Boucher to the glove side. It is Horton’s 11th goal of the season.


6:00 – Bruins’ forward Patrice Bergeron drives a high hard shot into the shoulder of Brian Boucher.

5:14 – A lot of good action at both ends of the ice. The Bruins have been missing the net a great deal in this game.

Second period
18:39 – Flyers 1, Boston 0 – Former UNH standout James van Riemsdyk has given his team a lead. Van Riemsdyk beat goalie Tim Thomas to the glove side on a one-timer, for his fifth tally of the season.

17:07 – Defenseman Andrew Ference has a bid for the Bruins with a shot from the left circle but goalie Brian Boucher gloves it.

13:41 – Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid is back on the ice after being the target of a dangerous hit by Flyers’ forward Jody Shelley at the 5:08 mark. The Bruins’ fans gave him a warm welcome back.

10:08 – Although the Bruins had five shots on net during the major penalty to Jody Shelley for his hit from behind on Adam McQuaid, they weren’t able to get anything past goalie Brian Boucher.

7:23 – The Bruins had a great opportunity to get on the board. Bruins captain Zdeno Chara blasted a slapper from the left point and Brian Boucher made the save. Bruins’ forward Michael Ryder got to the rebound on the doorstep but couldn’t get it by Boucher.


5:08 – Adam McQuaid, fortunately, appears to be okay. Jody Shelley has been assessed a five-minute major penalty for hitting from behind. The Bruins are on the power play.

5:08 – A scary scene on the TD Garden ice as Bruins’ defenseman Adam McQuaid, who was going back on an icing behind the Boston net, was shoved into the end boards by Flyers’ forward Jody Shelley. The Bruins’ medical staff is attending to McQuaid.

4:44 – Bruins’ forward Shawn Thornton and Flyers’ forward Daniel Carcillo are threatening to scrap.

4:06 – Bruins goalie Tim Thomas robs Flyers forward Scott Hartnell, when he tries to beat Thomas with a one-timer from the right circle but Thomas reaches out and gloves it.

First period
20:00 – The teams are scoreless after one. It was a little bit scrambly at times on both sides. The Bruins need to bear down more on their chances. Zdeno Chara had a very strong first period.

19:00 – The Bruins have gotten a tremendous effort from their energy line – Shawn Thornton, Brad Marchand and Gregory Campbell.

15:59 – Bruins’ captain Zdeno Chara makes a great read, taking away a golden scoring chance in front for Flyers’ winger Daniel Briere.

14:15 – Bruins have a good chance in front when Milan Lucic dishes a centering pass to David Krejci but Krejci couldn’t get a shot off.

11:33 – Flyers’ penalty killers didn’t allow the Bruins to do much of anything on the man advantage. Boston fails to land a shot.

9:33 – Bruins go on the power play as a result of an interference call on Flyers’ forward Daniel Carcillo, who rammed center Marc Savard into the boards.


8:23 – Bruins buzzing the Flyers’ net. Shawn Thornton has had all kinds of opportunities and has been in strong position in front of Flyers’ netminder Brian Boucher.

6:00 – Flyers appeared to have at least two extra men on the ice but no call.

5:43 – Bruins dodge a bullet during a sloppy line change but escape unscathed.

2:54 – Flyers’ left wing Jody Shelley takes a shot from the left circle that goalie Tim Thomas handles easily.

The game is underway.
Bruins’ phenom Tyler Seguin not in the lineup because of flu-like symptoms.
