Sabres win it, 3-2. Melee breaks out between both clubs at final whistle. Order restored without any significant damage.

Bruins call timeout with 56.7 seconds to go.

With 1:38 to go in period, and the Bruins in need of a goal, Lucic sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct.

10:55 — Buffalo 3, Boston 2 — Stafford completes hat trick, potting forehander into open left side after Pomnville’s long slapper deflects out of traffic jam in slot. Power-play goal. Thornton in box for goaltender interference.

6:53 — Boston 2, Buffalo 2 — Sabres right back with even-strength strike. Stafford drills in one-timer from slot off of Roy’s soft backhand dish off right wing.


6:21– Boston 2, Buffalo 1 — Ryder cuts in from blue line, dekes around Montador and Hecht, rips home forehander for ninth goal of season. Power-play goal. Play nearly offsides, but Krejci gets out of zone just in time to allow Ryder legal entry.

5:04 — Weber off for tripping Thornton.

1:28 — Connolly off for tripping Krejci.

Period ends with neither side able to add to score. Remains tied, 1-1. Buffalo with 27-26 shot advantage for the two periods.

18:23 — Bergeron snaps off 12-15 foot wrister, but Miller stops it. Best bid of period.

16:16 — Bergeron off for hooking Myers.

Bruins unable to score with two-man edge, then unable to strike with residual 5-on-4. Good possession, but unable to generate good chances.

9:11 — Myers called for delay of game, setting up Bruins with 5-on-3 power play.

7:59 — Hecht off for hooking Campbell.

5:50 — Chara rips one off post off short dish from Savard. Boston finally begins to pick up the skating pace.

18:41 — Boston 1, Buffalo 1— Stafford provides tap at right post after Rask turns back initial shot by Myers. Power-play goal. Lucic in the box.

17:29 — Boston 1, Buffalo 0 — — Krejci steps between two sleeping Buffalo defensemen and provides redirect of Seidenberg feed from left wing circle.


13:35 — Stafford off for slashing. Hauls down Krejci in Buffalo end after Wheeler sends Krejci into zone with short feed from left side.

12:43 — Ference off for roughing. Gives Kaleta a whack to upper body as the two collide in Boston end.

12:00 — Crowd nearly asleep. Might all be tired from shoveling driveways.

9:45 — Good effort by Marchand on stuff attempt off wraparound. Miller thwarts at right post.

Paille playing left wing on line with Savard and Ryder.

4:05 — Decent bid by Niedermayer off left wing. Rask covers short side with ease.
