Matt Bartkowski, who grew up 15 minutes away from downtown Pittsburgh in nearby Mount Lebanon, will make his NHL debut tonight against his hometown team. Bartkowski was raised watching the 1990s Penguins, a crew that included current teammate Mark Recchi.
Adam McQuaid will not play tonight because of an undisclosed injury. McQuaid was hurt against Montreal on Saturday. Julien said McQuaid is day-to-day. McQuaid worked out on a stationary bike this morning, but didn’t participate in an optional skate.
McQuaid suffered a concussion last year and was involved in a first-period fight with Travis Moen on Saturday. It’s unlikely that McQuaid would have ridden the bike today had he suffered a head injury.
* Julien said Nathan Horton is questionable for tonight. However, Horton was the last man on the ice and was being bag-skated by assistant coach Doug Houda, most likely indicating that he will not play. Horton is skating hard, so it’s a good bet that his ailment is not related to his legs. Horton remains day-to-day.
* Tuukka Rask was the first goalie off the ice, indicating that he will start tonight.
* Matt Cooke declined to comment when asked about playing against Marc Savard tonight.
