Kings waive Sturm; Hawks waive Boynton

With Monday’s NHL trade dealine just some 72 hours away, ex-Bruins Marco Sturm (LA) and Nick Boynton (Chicago) both were placed on waivers at noon today.

Sturm waived his no-trade clause with the Bruins earlier this season, agreeing on a deal that sent him to the Kings, netting the Bruins nothing in return. Boston GM Peter Chiarelli was happy simply to remove Sturm’s $3.5 million cap hit from his payroll.

Boynton, who last played in the Hub in 2005-’06, leaving just prior to Chiarelli being named GM, was dealt from Anaheim to Chicago March 2 last year and played in three post-season games for the Cup-winning Hawks.
