Following the victory, coach Claude Julien said Steve Kampfer, who did not play in the third period, ”Obviously got his bell rung.”
Team doctors, said Julien, ”wanted to be cautious”, leading them to keep Kampfer out of the final 20 minutes. The rookie defenseman will be examined again today by doctors, add the coach.
If Kampfer is concussed, as expected, he will miss at least a week of action. With Andrew Ference still out with an undisclosed injury, the Bruins most likely would call up Pittsburgh homeboy Matt Bartkowski from Providence (AHL) for Saturday’s game here against the Penguins.
Gone 60 here. Bruins win, 2-1. Seven staight W’s.
With 2:00 to go, Bruins acknowledge Kampfer out and will not return. Speculation in press box is that Ritola hit might have led to concussion or whiplash-like injury.

SECOND PERIOD40 minutes in the books. Tied, 1-1. 15:23 -- Seidenberg penalty, crosschecking Jones. 14:49. -- Marchand, the L'il Ball o' Hate, has words with Hedman. Only verbal volley. 12:20 -- Horton breaks in on 2-on-1 attempt but is stoned by Smith, who uses blocker to cut down big winger's doorstep wrister. Just the chances that win/lose playoff series. 10:10 -- Lucic and Brewer square off. Brewer does all he can to hold on, which is enough to spare him getting pummeled. Horton and Lucic minors leave Tampa with 5-on-3 power play for 1:53. 8:17 -- Ohlund sent off for roughing Krejci. Boston's second power play. Again, good movement, but zippo to show for it. Forwards need to be more nimble around net. Larry King-like with reaction time. PP negated with seven second remaining due to penalty. 6:38 -- Thornton throws down, awaits fight with Kubina, but big defenseman opts not to be put through the grinder. Garden crowd boos. Downie offers to fight Thornton. Referees see enough, tag Thornton and Downie with 10m misconducts. 6:06 — Bruins tie, 1-1 – Kampfer collects pass above right wing circle, sweeps into circle and puts hammer down on slapper. The kid is a dream skater. Assists to Causeway newcomers Kelly and Peverley. That was easy.

As 6:00 mark approaches, sellout Garden crowd chants, ”Let’s go, Bruins!” Locals sense low level of emotion in those B-and-G sweaters.
3:16 — Mike Smith scurries to right post and robs Bergeron of doorstep stuff of a Recchi pass.
