Bruins knock out Canadiens, 4-3

Overtime – 5:43 – Boston 4, Montreal 3 – It’s a final here. Nathan Horton has won it for the Bruins. Horton’s blast from the left point has ended the Canadiens’ season.

Overtime – 4:24 – Boston 3, Montreal 3 – A lot of open skating to start the extra session. Both teams, despite playing on back-to-back nights, seem to have plenty left in the tank. So far, though, the chances have been pretty straightforward and the goalies have had good looks.

3d period – 20:00 – Boston 3, Montreal 3 – We’re headed to overtime. But, given the way this series has gone, did you expect anything less?

3d period – 18:03 – Boston 3, Montreal 3 – The Canadiens have tied this one on the power play. Defenseman P.K. Subban, who took a pass from Tomas Plekanec, buried a one-timer from the top of the left circle that blew by Tim Thomas for the equalizer.


3d period – 17:23 – Boston 3, Montreal 2 – Patrice Bergeron has been called for high sticking. The Canadiens are going on the power play.

3d period – 9:44 – Boston 3, Montreal 2 – Bruins’ forward Chris Kelly has given Boston back the lead. Kelly started the play by wiping out Canadiens’ defenseman Roman Hamrlik along the right-wing boards. He finished it by beating Carey Price on a backhand rebound shot from just outside the right post.

3d period – 8:30 – Boston 2, Montreal 2 – Montreal forward Jeff Halpern has gone to the dressing room after being knocked out on an awkward hit by Bruins’ defenseman Andrew Ference. No penalty was assessed on the play.

2d period – 20:00 – Boston 2, Montreal 2 – When the third period begins, the Canadiens will have 12 seconds remaining on the power play as a result of the Johnny Boychuk penalty.

2d period – 18:12 – Boston 2, Montreal 2 – Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk has been called for boarding. The Habs are on the power play.

2d period – 14:34 – Boston 2, Montreal 2 – Jeff Halpern got a chance to give the Habs the lead when he skated in alone on Tim Thomas but Halpern’s low shot was easily handled by the Bruins’ goalie.

2d period – 14;13 – Boston 2, Montreal 2 – The Canadiens have worked off the momentum they gathered as a result of their shorthanded tally that tied the game. The Bruins aren’t spending much time in the Habs’ zone as a result and when they do, the Canadiens’ defense keeps the opportunities short.


2d period – 5:50 – Boston 2, Montreal 2 – The Canadiens took advantage of a Bruins turnover at the red line during the Bruins power play and scored shorthanded to pull even. Tomas Plekanec, who has had a terrific series for the Habs, took off alone and beat goalie Tim Thomas on a forehand shot from the slot.

2d period – 4:41 – Boston 2, Montreal 1 – Lars Eller has been sent to the penalty box for cross checking. The Bruins are going on the power play. Maybe this will be the one that ends the protracted drought.

1st period – 20:00 – Boston 2, Montreal 1 – The first period is in the books. The Bruins have a one-goal lead heading into the first intermission. They couldn’t get anything on their power play, which expired with one second remaining in the period.

1st period – 17:59 – Boston 2, Montreal 1 – Andrei Kostitsyn has been sent to the box for high sticking. After a three-second four-on-four, the Bruins will go on the power play in an attempt to end their man-advantage drought, which was 0 for 19 in the first five six games of this series.

1st period – 16:02 – Boston 2, Montreal 1 – Shawn Thornton has been assessed an elbowing call. The Habs are going on the power play.

1st period – 9:49 – Boston 2, Montreal 1 – The Canadiens came through on the power play to cut the deficit to one goal. Defenseman Yannick Weber beat Tim Thomas over the glove on a shot from the right circle.

1st period – 8:22 – Boston 2, Montreal 0 – Michael Ryder has been assessed a hooking penalty. Habs going on the power play.

1st period – 5:33 – Boston 2, Montreal 0 – Veteran Mark Recchi has given the Bruins a two-goal lead early. Recchi’s shot from the slot beat goalie Carey Price to the stick side.

1st period – 3:31 – Boston 1, Montreal 0 – The Bruins have taken the early lead in this one. Defenseman Johnny Boychuk took a pass from Brad Marchand and fired a shot from the right point that eluded goalie Carey Price.

1st period – 3:17 – Boston 0, Montreal 0 – Patrice Bergeron has an opening on a shot from the right circle but Canadiens’ goalie Carey Price was there.
