Tampa Bay Lightning forward Sean Bergenheim spoke about his team’s victory in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals and his position as the leading goal scorer in the playoffs.
“It’s a good feeling but to be honest the best feeling is that we’re winning,” Bergenheim said after the game. “I’m obviously happy that I’ve been helping the team but I think it’s more of a line effort and our line that’s been clicking…”
“I think our goal today, the first one that we scored, was, you know, that’s what we do. We went in on the forecheck and we got the puck in front of the net and scored that way and I think we’ve actually scored many goals kind of like it, like that one. Yeah I think, to be honest, I think both teams were a little bit rusty, especially in the beginning and I think also we as a line can do better than today.”
Lightning forward Dominic Moore also spoke about the long layoff.
“I think it was a tough thing for both teams having that lay off.” Moore said. “I think maybe we got a little bit lucky. We got a couple of good bounces early on. That helps a lot.”
Moore spoke about the rough play during the closing minutes of the game.
“I think that is how it goes,” Moore said. “When teams are competing for every square inch there is no surprises at any point in the game.”
Moore was asked if he thought his team frustrated the Bruins in the opening game.
“I don’t know, I think they are competing,” Moore said. “That is what you have to do. You just have to try and maintain our focus as well… I think the start of the game you want to try and come out and play sharp, but at the same time when you haven’t played in nine days it gets tough. You just kind of have to keep it simple sometimes.”
