Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara shared his thoughts on Tampa Bay scoring three goals in just one minute and 25 seconds of the first period in Game 1.
“I thought that we had a good start and created some chances and some pressure,” Chara said after the game. “But then we had some breakdowns, and that’s when they got some momentum and obviously they scored some goals. I think the first period was really good for them scoring three goals. We have to be better… It’s a first game loss. Obviously it’s not a perfect world. Every team we play they are obviously going to be a good opponent and we need to get ready for Game 2…
“I thought we had a good start and created some pressure on them. Then we made some mistakes, and didn’t do the job we can do and they got those goals. Obviously when you are behind three goals in the first twenty minutes, that’s always tough. After that we still had some chances and some opportunities to come back into the game.”
Chara was asked if the long layoff had an affect on the Bruins tonight.
“No, I don’t think so,” Chara said. “We just made some mistakes and we could have made some better or stronger plays. We have to correct them and we have to be better in game two.”
More from Chara’s postgame media session:
On if the team put enough pressure on Dwayne Roloson…
We would obviously like to get more. Some better shots, better traffic. He did a good job tonight and he saw most of the shots. We tried, obviously no goalie likes the traffic. We just have to find a way to keep doing that and getting to the rebounds.
On Patrice Bergeron not being in the lineup…
Obviously he’s a big part of our team but we have to find a way to play without him right now. Injuries do happen and we need to find a way to play without guys when they do get hurt.
