The Bruins took part in a little sheer madness in Boston Wednesday, all for a good cause.
At the fifth annual “Cuts for a Cause” charity event, 17 members of the Bruins got their hair cut and heads shaved to raise money for the Boston Bruins Foundation and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center.
This year’s event raised over $58,000 for the cause.
Hosted by Bruins forward Shawn Thornton and sports radio 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher & Rich, “Cuts for a Cause” took place at Royale in Boston where hundreds of fans showed up to take part in the fundraiser.
Several of the fans that bid to shave their favorite Bruins’ head got to take part in the cutting alongside stylists from the Barbershop Lounge in Boston. Winning bidders also took part in a VIP session where they were able to meet with several players before the start of the event.
Thornton and teammates Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara, Nathan Horton, Milan Lucic, Brad Marchand, Adam McQuaid, Chris Kelly, Johnny Boychuk, Jordan Caron, Torey Krug, Mike Mottau, Daniel Paille, Benoit Pouliot, Rich Peverley, Tyler Seguin and Dennis Seidenberg all had more than a little taken off the top.
Even The Bruins Bear took part in shaving the gang’s heads.
At the instruction of Thornton, defenseman Adam McQuaid got his hair done tight on the top and sides, but he was left with a healthy mullet in the back for the second year in a row.
“Every year it seems like it gets bigger and bigger,” McQuaid said regarding the event. “And all the guys have been great to get involved. When everyone’s doing it it’s easy to do it yourself, and obviously a great cause. All around, it’s a good day for everyone.”
All of the money raised at the event will be donated through the Boston Bruins Foundation to benefit Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center’s “Child Life Services Activities,” “Shooting Stars” and “Very Important Brothers and Sisters” programs.
