Rest day for Bruins

The Bruins have been given the day off. They will resume work Tuesday morning at TD Garden prior to facing off against Buffalo in the evening.

Here’s the latest version of Plus/Minus:

+ Zdeno Chara named Second Star of the Week. Chara recorded seven assists in four games. Chara had three helpers in Tuesday’s 5-2 win over Tampa Bay. The captain set up Dennis Seidenberg for the tying goal in Sunday’s 2-1 win over the Rangers. Chara will most likely get a day off in one of the last three regular-season games.

+ Bruins clinch second seed. Much better to open the playoffs at home instead of on the road. With the No. 2 spot on lockdown, they can rest players and manage ice time more effectively in the last three games.

+ Less than a week remaining in the regular season. The real stuff is close.

– In all likelihood, no Nathan Horton to open the playoffs. Given that Horton has yet to resume skating, it’s just about guaranteed that he won’t be available for the start of the first round. The Bruins have yet to consider declaring Horton’s season to be over.

– Lack of a leading candidate to replace Horton. In the last three games, Jordan Caron, Rich Peverley, and Tyler Seguin have gotten chances to ride with Milan Lucic and David Krejci. So far, Caron looks to be the best fit. But the line has had stretches in which it struggled to create chances. Bruins need more consistency.

– Less than a week remaining in the regular season. Let’s get to the real stuff already.
