Only a scrimmage, but Bruins eager for action

The Bruins will participate in their only scrimmage of training camp tonight at TD Garden. The camp crew will play against Providence players, who will be brought up for the game. The team is anticipating a full house of 17,565. The game will be streamed live on, with Dave Goucher and Bob Beers calling the action.

“It’s pretty exciting to realize how quickly it got sold out,” coach Claude Julien said. “As I’ve often said, we’ve got some pretty loyal fans here. They missed the game more than anything. They’re looking forward to seeing our team back on the ice. Our job this year is not to disappoint them.”

  • Julien is seeking more from the fourth line of Daniel Paille, Gregory Campbell, and Shawn Thornton this year. “I thought that last year, they weren’t as good as the year before,” Julien said. “They need to find that chemistry and that energy that they gave us, that positive energy they gave our team. Maybe last year was tough because all three of those guys were looking for a new contract. Maybe they were pressing too much. But now is a situation where they can get back to doing what they did. They outworked every line they played against. They threw pucks to the net. They crashed the net. That’s how they got offensive results.”
  • The difference between players who played during the lockout and those who didn’t is decreasing, Julien said. “You can see an improvement every day,” Julien said. “I find that it’s starting to level off pretty quickly. What we’re going to have to be careful of is the schedule part of it.”
