Game 38 preview: Senators at Bruins

The Bruins return from the three-day Christmas break with a set of back-to-back home-and-home games against the Senators. The series begins tonight in Boston, where the struggling Senators will face Tuukka Rask as the Bruins’ goalie.

Boston will have one returning player and one new player in the fold for tonight’s game, with left wing Daniel Paille back from the concussion symptoms that he suffered on the team’s trip across Canada earlier this month and goalie Niklas Svedberg called up from Providence. The team sent down David Warsofsky and Nick Johnson over the break.

The Bruins will do their best to extend their 12-0-2 streak at the TD Garden tonight, after going 7-2-0 overall in their last nine games heading into the break.

Notes: The Bruins lost in their one matchup with Ottawa so far this season, 4-2. … The Bruins have a six-game streak in which they’ve had a player score two goals (Smith and Iginla have each done it twice, plus Chara and Marchand). That’s the longest such streak since Feb. 24-March 8, 1979 for the Bruins and the longest in the NHL in more than two years, since San Jose had a six-game stretch in March and April of 2011, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. … When Svedberg gets into a game, he’ll be the 10th Bruin to make his debut with the team this season, and the fourth to play his first NHL game. … The referees tonight will be Wes McCauley and Chris Rooney. The linesmen will be Brian Murphy and Tony Sericolo.
