Dennis Seidenberg out for season with injured right knee

Dennis Seidenberg’s season is over. Seidenberg has been ruled out for 2013-14 because of a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee.

Seidenberg was injured in the third period of last night’s 5-0 win over Ottawa. Seidenberg collided with Cory Conacher. Seidenberg needed help returning to the dressing room.

Seidenberg was the team’s No. 2 defenseman. The left-shot Seidenberg had been playing on the second pairing. In the playoffs, Seidenberg could have moved up to partner with Zdeno Chara like he has since the 2010-11 postseason.

The rock-hard defenseman provided flexibility because he could play both sides. Seidenberg was also capable of logging big minutes in even-strength and shorthanded situations.

The Bruins recalled Zach Trotman from Providence on an emergency basis. This is Trotman’s first NHL recall. The right-shot Trotman was paired with Zdeno Chara for much of training camp. David Warsofsky was recalled from Providence earlier today.

To make room for the reinforcements, Niklas Svedberg was assigned to Providence.
