Claude Julien Praises Matt Fraser; Knows Bruins Have to Play Better

MONTREAL — Claude Julien had the answer before the game, and he provided the best answer after the game when asked what Matt Fraser brought to his team Thursday night.

“The winning goal, right,” the Bruins coach said in the postgame presser as the media members chuckled. “We’ve seen him this year and he’s been playing well lately in Providence and actually has been scoring some goals and has been playing some pretty good hockey and he showed that tonight. I liked his game. Not because he scored, but his whole game he seemed to be strong on the puck, making decisions, wasn’t turning pucks over and seemed to be skating well and it was nice to see that happen but the GM probably deserves that credit, he’s the one who called him up so no doubt, he’s a good player. We knew that when we had him for quite a while there this year, he can certainly shoot the puck but he seems to have a knack to score some goals so as you can see in this series, we need that.”

Julien knows the Bruins still need to improve with what is now a three-game series ahead of his team.

“The win was important, I think obviously to get us back in this series,” he said. “But I don’t think we’ve played our best hockey and that’s not to downplay this win, but we’ve played hard. I know I’ve seen our team play better, but it seems to be a process right now, we’re working through it and you hope that this win here helps that to get better for us anyway, and you go from there. But there’s no doubt, these guys are working hard, they care, they want to, it doesn’t always go as smooth as we like it to be. What I like is that we’ve shown character and we’re battling through and finding ways to try and win games.”
