What was once a lifeless team is now invigorated after Jarome Iginla’s tip goal in the second period.
The Bruins had appeared all but dead after Max Pacioretty’s early second period goal, a one-timer past Tuukka Rask that deadened the crowd as much as the Bruins.
But a stick holding call on Pacioretty led to an inspired Bruins power play and Iginla’s tipped goal off a Torey Krug shot attempt. The crowd’s roars reached a fever pitch level afterward and the Bruins appeared inspired in the final moments of the period.
The Bruins still lead the game in shots (22) and have successfully killed three penalties through the game. While they missed some extraordinary chances in the early part of the second (Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron both faced 2-on-1s), they’re still in the game, a fact that won’t get past many. If only one of those chances hits the back of the net, this is an entirely different hockey game.
And let’s not forget, this is one of the best hockey clubs in the third period. This should be interesting.
