Bruins assistant coach Geoff Ward is headed overseas to become a head coach for the Mannheim Eagles of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga in Germany,

Boston general manager Peter Chiarelli announced Thursday that Ward had resigned from his position after seven years with the franchise. Ward’s biggest contribution to the Bruins may have been turning one of the most maddening power plays in the NHL into one of the league’s strongest last season.

He joined the Bruins staff after 12 years of coaching experience at the OHL (Kitchener and Guelph) and AHL (Hamilton Bulldogs) levels in addition to two previous head coaching stints in Germany.
