Doc Rivers had a surprise at practice Monday — Michael Olowokandi.
The Celtics’ big man was back on the floor for the first time in weeks after suffering an abdominal strain. Rivers said Olowokandi might even be activated for games this week, but that it was unlikely Olowokandi would play much, if at all.
The news wasn’t so good on Wally Szczerbiak, who sprained his right ankle on Saturday. Rivers said Szczerbiak will likely miss the team’s West Coast trip the week after Christmas because this sprain is worse than the last sprain (his left ankle) which knocked him out five games.
Ryan Gomes did not practice to rest his sore right calf, but said he plans to practice tomorrow and return to action Wednesday night against the Warriors.
