Gerald Green made two plays in the first half against the Sixers that were simply not possible for the second-year forward last season. With 7:50 left in the second quarter, Green out-leaped Samuel Dalembert and grabbed an offensive rebound. Green then took a power-dribble before taking the ball hard to the other side of the rim for a layup.
With 4:18 remaining in the half, Green confidently drained a three-point shot to continue a 7-0 Boston run and force a Philadelphia timeout. Neither play was in Green’s repertoire earlier this season.
Despite a solid effort from Green and Al Jefferson (eight points, nine rebounds), the Celtics could not stop Philadelphia from scoring at will for most of the half.
Allen Iverson has been cleared to play for the Denver Nuggets after passing his physical, according to the Associated Press. However, because Iverson had not passed his physical as of 7 p.m. Friday evening, the trade sending AI to Denver for Andre Miller and Joe Smith was not yet official. That meant Smith, who is in the building and was preparing to play against the Celtics, had to sit out. Miller did not make the trip to Boston because he was still in Philadelphia completing his physical.
If you were in the crowd at tonight’s game you would have found out that Delonte West’s favorite movie is “The Lion King”. The Celtics ran a video montage of West talking about the movie during the first timeout of the second quarter. West received treatment for a cut above his right eye while the video ran.
