The reinforcements are starting to arrive for the Celtics. Today, they actually had 10 players for practice, as Delonte West returned. Wally Szczerbiak is planning to practice tomorrow.
West, who has missed the last four games with a bad back, said he felt terrific after today’s practice, but that he needed work on his conditioning. He’ll have time; the Celtics don’t play again until Friday night. Coach Doc Rivers was a happy man seeing West go through the practice and he’ll be happier tomorrow if Szczerbiak can get through that practice. Szczeriak also has missed the last four games with ankle and knee problems. He did some light shooting today after practice.
The news on Paul Pierce wasn’t so good, however. Rivers reported he talked to the Celtics’ captain today and that while Pierce said he is feeling better, he was still wearing the protective boot on his left foot. Pierce has not played since Dec. 20 due to a stress reaction in the foot. Originally, it was thought he’d miss two to three weeks. Today marks four weeks to the day since he last played. He has missed 13 games and the Celtics have lost 12 of them.
