Welcome to the Garden, where the Boston Celtics (12-15) will take on the Sacramento Kings (14-22) at 7:30 p.m. The Kings come into the game on a seven-game losing streak. The Celtics have lost their last five home games and are 4-13 at home this season.
On the court right now for the Celtics are Al Jefferson, Allan Ray, and Gerald Green. Jefferson has been a beast on the boards as of late. Big Al was the first Celtic to grab more than 20 rebounds in a game (he had 21 against the Pistons last week) since Mark Blount in 2004.
Rajon Rondo was on the court by himself warming up around 5:15 p.m. Rondo is second among NBA rookies with 1.12 steals per game and 2.4 assists per game.
The Celtics enter tonight’s game with the sobering news that captain Paul Pierce could be out until the All-Star break (Feb. 15-19) or beyond. With Tony Allen out for the year and Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West banged up, the Celtics have been severely shorthanded in the New Year.
There is no word yet on whether West will play tonight. West practiced this week and could join his teammates on the court for the first time Jan. 7 when he scored 13 points against Orlando.
We’ll have more on West as well as comments from the Celtics locker room in a bit.
