The Celtics began the game with Rajon Rondo and Brian Scalabrine in the starting lineup. Defensively, coach Doc Rivers must have liked the matchups of Rondo on Sam Cassell, Delonte West on Cuttino Mobley, and Scalabrine on Elton Brand. Under the original starting lineup, West would have matched up with Cassell, Gerald Green would have taken Mobley, the much-smaller Jefferson would have covered Brand, and Kendrick Perkins would have guarded Chris Kaman.
Rondo brought the crowd to life midway through the quarter with a driving layup and a steal off the ensuing L.A. inbounds pass. Rondo worked the ball to Delonte West, who found Al Jefferson for a tomahawk dunk and a one-point Celtics lead.
Elton Brand is the high man in the game with 12 points and six rebounds.
