Pierce out of hospital

Although the Celtics did not practice today, there were a couple injury/illness updates to pass along. Paul Pierce was discharged from New England Baptist Hospital this afternoon. He will continue taking oral antibiotics for an infected left elbow. Pierce was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon due to the infection and resulting fever.

Wally Szczerbiak will have his sprained left ankle reevaluated Friday, but he is considered doubtful for Friday night’s game against the New Jersey Nets. Szczerbiak suffered his third ankle sprain in a little over two months, his second left ankle sprain, when he stepped on Leon Powe’s foot out of bounds during the third quarter of Wednesday night’s 91-79 loss to the Miami Heat at the TD Banknorth Garden.
