The Nets have opened up a 13-point lead after Brian Scalabrine tied the game at 42 with a three-pointer to start the third quarter.
Paul Pierce checked in at the 6:31 mark in the third quarter and missed his first shot on a drive with 5:58 remaining in the third. He knocked down his first shot of the game, a jumper from the elbow, with 3:12 left in the third quarter. It was his first make in nine chances.
Pierce ended the quarter 1-11 in 11 minutes for the Celtics.
Pierce talked to the refs from the bench after the officials overturned an out-of-bounds call on All Jefferson. Pierce is known to be vocal while sitting on the bench.
Sebastian Telfair is healthy and available but has not played so far for the Celtics. Doc Rivers said after Wednesday’s game he would shorten his rotation to seven or eight players. Eight players have seen action tonight for Boston with the return of Paul Pierce.
