Celtics radio analyst Cedric Maxwell apologized on-air Wednesday night for a comment he made during Monday night’s Celtics-Rockets broadcast.
On Monday’s broadcast, Maxwell told referee Violet Palmer to “Go back to the kitchen,” according to a story in Wednesday’s Boston Herald. After a pause, Maxwell continued with his comments.
“Go in there and make me some bacon and eggs, would you?” Maxwell said on Monday.
Maxwell apologized for his comments before Wednesday night’s game with the Knicks.
“Violette Palmer, as a woman of color, and a woman, she worked extremely hard to get in this position,” he said. “If I have said anything that might have been insensitive or sexist in any way, then I apologize. Because she has worked extremely hard to get to where she is now.”
Maxwell’s on-air partner Sean Grande followed Maxwell’s on-air comments Wednesday with this statement:
“We are not changing our show and we are not going to change the way we do our jobs because of the tendency of media outlets to present people’s comments in a way that serves their story,” said Grande.
Maxwell and Grande would not talk to reporters before the game.
