Rajon Rondo had one of his best games of the season Wednesday night with 13 points, 10 assists, four rebounds, and three steals.
“I was just taking what the defense gave me,” Rondo said in the Celtics locker room after the game. “They turned it back in me a lot, and I tried to cut and guys found me wide open.”
Rondo credited Boston’s defense for the win.
“Even though their leading scorer was out, don’t take it away from our defense,” he said. “Josh Smith has been playing well lately. We came in and gave him some tough looks. He didn’t have as successful of a night (six points in the second half) as he wanted to against us.”
The Celtics knew Atlanta was battling for a playoff spot, but Rondo said one of Boston’s assistant coaches reminded them of that right before the game by writing their playoff position on the white board.
“We want to be spoilers now,” said Rondo. “That’s what we’re trying to do.”
