Welcome to the Garden

Welcome to the Garden, where the Boston Celtics (20-47) will take on the Charlotte Bobcats (25-43) at 7:30 p.m.

The Celtics and Bobcats come into this game in a race for the league’s second-worst record and a better chance at one of the top two picks in the NBA draft. The Celtics are five games worse (depending on how you want to look at it) than the Bobcats in the win column and four games worse in the loss column.

The Memphis Grizzlies (17-51) have the NBA’s worst record. Memphis has yet to win consecutive games this season. You read that correctly: not even two in a row.

  • Celtics forward Ryan Gomes was in uniform and participating in full contact drills against Michael Olowokandi before tonight’s game. Gomes then took a shot guarding the more mobile Gerald Green. Gomes looked to be moving comfortably from side to side and took it to the hole for a strong dunk on a couple of plays.

Gomes has not played since injuring his foot March 7 against Houston. We’ll get his official status for tonight when the Celtics release it shortly before the game. It’s Ryan Gomes Bobblehead Night at the Garden, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed.

  • Fresh off their three-game road trip, the Celtics opted for rest instead of practice Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. The team held a walk-through before tonight’s game against the Bobcats.
  • Rajon Rondo was out before the game working on, what else, his jump shot. Rondo took jumpers from just beyond the elbow, wide open, for about five minutes. By my count, he made less than half of them. He then moved to the corner, just inside the three-point line, where he had much better success.

We’ll be back in a bit with comments from the Celtics locker room.
