There was no definitive word from Paul Pierce tonight on whether he will shut down for the rest of the season with an elbow injury or continue playing through the pain. Pierce said he did not talk to the medical staff today about his condition and isn’t sure if he will talk to them next week.
“I’m not sure,” said Pierce. “I really want to finish out the season. I feel like I missed a lot of games already. Who knows? Right now I’m leaning towards playing the rest of these games. I’m going to see how my body feels and just take it day by day.”
“For us to beat a team like that, we’ve got to be on point all game,” said Pierce. “We can’t have lulls against the best team in the NBA.”
The Celtics lost by just five points in Dallas last Friday night but were no match for the Mavericks tonight.
“I think last week Dallas, they’re just such a great team, they look at our record and it’s tough for them to get up against a team like us,” said Pierce. “They took us for granted and we were able to play with them. Tonight they know how we played them. They were ready for their ‘A’ game and it showed.”
Is Dallas the best team Pierce has seen all season?
“Right now they are the best team,” he said. “They’re playing the best basketball. They’ve shown they can put together runs. They’ve won 10, 12 games in a row consecutive times. Yes, they are.”
