The league will honor America’s most prominent civil right’s leader by playing 12 games. Doc Rivers, just a boy when King was assassinated, recalled King’s importance in his own home.
It’s the first day I’ve ever seen my dad cry. Martin Luther King’s death was the first time I had actually heard of Martin Luther King. I was in the second grade, I was oblivious to the world at the time. I remember my dad and my grandfather were sitting on the couch at the time and they both were crying.
And I knew it was important. My dad was a tough Chicago cop, who didn’t cry. Then, I remember watching the riots and everything on the television, and obviously for a second grader that was a tremendous impact.
